Three New York based websites are mentioned in the Family Tree Magazine 2025 101 Best Websites for Genealogy and 75 Best State Genealogy Websites.
The only website mentioned in the Best State websites is New York Heritage. On this website you can find photographs, letters, diaries, maps, directories, artifacts, oral histories and more that have been contributed by over 430 libraries, museums, archives, and cultural institutions.
I have uploaded historical photos to this website for two different libraries that I worked for. It is a collaborative project of eight of the nine Empire State Library Network library councils. To start searching, go to: https://nyheritage.org/
The two websites named to the 101 Best Genealogy Websites are: the NYC Historical Vital Records Project and the Passenger Search function on the Ellis Island Foundation website.
The NYC Historical Vital Records Project is being done by the New York City Municipal Archives to provide online access to 13.3 million historical birth, death, and marriage records. Birth records range from 1855 to 1909; marriage records from 1866 to 1937 and deaths from 1862 to 1948.

The Passenger Search database allows you to look for family members who arrived at the Port of New York from 1820 to 1957. There are nearly 65 million passenger records and ship manifests, examining information collected at debarkation points. Some passenger records are more complete than others, but many reveal name, age, date of arrival, ship name, nationality, birthplace, occupation, last residence overseas, and final destination.
