New York public libraries to offer June genealogy programs

Many New York public libraries will be offering free genealogy programs in the second half of June.

Week of  June 14 – 20

Livonia Public Library will present “Genealogy Mapping” on Monday, June 15 at 4 p.m. Learn how to explore family histories through Google Earth. Learn how to use the program on a big screen and find interesting historical locations, as well as learn how becoming a citizen scientist can help our environment and ecosystem. Hamlin Public Library (Monroe County) will have a Genealogy Roundtable meeting on Tuesday, June 16 from 3-4 p.m. Learn about how to find your ancestor or a whole branch of your family tree you never knew about in our 1-hour discussion group. The Western Genealogical Society volunteers will be at the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library Central Library on Friday, June 19 from 9 a.m. to noon to assist researchers with the society’s library collection and answer general research questions.

The Williamson Public Library (Wayne County) will offer Ancestry Discovery Sessions on Saturday, June 20 from 10 a.m. to 1:40 p.m. There will be 40-minute, one-to-one consultation with a library staff expert who will help you “dig up” your family roots using the library’s free edition of Ancestry.com. Geneva Public Library will host a genealogy research roundtable on Saturday, June 20 at 10 a.m. Get together with others who are interested in family tree research. Stumped? The Interlaken Public Library (Seneca County) will host a genealogy meetup on Thursday, June 25 at 11 a.m. via Zoom. Interested in genealogy and family history? Join seasoned researchers for a meetup to discuss research tips and tricks, get help with your research, and enjoy other researchers who share your love of family history. Yonkers Public Library (Westchester County) will offer “Create Your Family Tree” on Thursday, June 25 at 2 p.m. Get together to talk about your genealogical research. Learn how to access thousands of genealogical records using the Library’s online resources and databases such as HeritageQuest, Family Search, and Ancestry! Livonia Public Library will have a genealogy workshop with Livingston County historian Holly Watson on Thursday, June 25 at 5:30 p.m. Participants will also have the opportunity to explore hands-on exercises using common genealogical resources such as maps, deeds, and historical documents, including tips for reading cursive writing. The Ogden Farmers’ Library will host a Genealogy Group on Friday, June 26 at 2 p.m. The topic will be “Preserving the Past in Pictures”. Do you have old photos relegated to a shoebox?
