New York State census records topic of podcast

The genealogy podcast, Ancestral Findings, has just added a recording  – “The Value of New York State Census Records for Genealogy.”

New York conducted state censuses in the following years: 1825, 1835, 1845, 1855, 1865, 1875, 1892, 1905, 1915, and 1925. These were authorized under various state constitutional provisions, including a requirement for mid-decade population counts to support legislative apportionment and school funding decisions.

There are not many surviving counties before the 1855 census. But with 1855 going forward you will find many of the counties available.
