Several NY genealogy societies to meet in December

Several New York State genealogy societies will be hosting programs in December.

Volunteers of the Buffalo Irish Genealogical Society will be at the Heritage Discovery Center on Saturday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help with genealogical research. For more information, email librarian@bigswny.org

The Ontario County Genealogical Society will present “Sharing Genealogy Finds and Brickwalls” on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. Meetings begin at 7 p.m. at the Ontario County Historical Society Museum in Canandaigua. For more information, go to: https://www.ocgsny.net/home

The Genealogical Society of Rockland County will present “Interviewing Family Members” on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. The program will be hybrid – in person at the New City Public Library and is also available on Zoom. The presentation is a pre-recorded program from Stephanie Call with the New England Historic Genealogical Society. The Jewish Genealogy Society of New York will present “Mapping Your Family History” on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. This will be a Zoom presentation. This presentation will teach you how to create a custom map, import location data associated with family history events or source records and then customize the appearance of that data on the map. Custom maps can be used in many ways, including visually conveying family migration patterns, showing the location of regional cemeteries, or which towns hold certain vital records.
