Historical marker honors those who served in World War II

Photographed By Alexander Erwin, June 17, 2021; courtesy of www.hmdb.org

The Historical Marker Database can be a very useful tool when researching your military ancestors.  Historical markers can be found throughout New York State listing those who served in various conflicts including: the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II and the Korean War.

Of course, as with anything other documentation, the markers may not be 100% accurate so if your ancestor is not listed on a marker it does not mean they did not serve in that conflict. Always be sure to do your research to verify the information found on the marker.

This posting features Suffolk County citizens from Eastport who served during World War II. To see the full-size version of the photo, as well as the transcription of the marker, go to: https://www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=175683
