New York State picks first state veterans’ cemetery

On Monday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that Sampson Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, located in Romulus, will be New York State’s first state-owned veterans cemetery.

The cemetery is on the grounds of the former Sampson Naval Training Station and Sampson Air Force Base, which officially closed in 2000. It currently has space for about 6,000 grave sites on 15 acres.
