Webinar to focus on place names of New York City

Then you might be interested in this free webinar,  hosted by American Ancestors – New England Historic Genealogical Society, will present author Joshua Jelly-Schapiro who will discuss his new book, “Names of New York: Discovering the City’s Past, Present, and Future Through Its Place-Names,” on Thursday, May 6 at 6 p.m.

This book covers the history of multicultural New York City as demonstrated in its place-names. Learn about the last living speakers of Lenape and meet the linguists who study the estimated 800 languages now spoken in New York. See how the names that adhere to the landscape function as portals to explore the past and why and where so many New York names have gained iconic significance far beyond the city’s boundaries.
