New York genealogy society to host all-day seminar on May 16

The Orange County Genealogical Society will host an all-day seminar on Saturday, May 16, 2026. This is an in-person event at the Goshen Public Library.

The presenter will be Fred Voss. He will present three topics:

Stories From Ellis Island – Learn about the workings of Ellis Island – how immigrants arrived, how they were processed and learn how to interpret the markings on passenger lists.

More Stories from Ellis Island – Some immigrants found themselves detained due to mental or physical illness or because those who were due to receive them did not show up.

Finding Your Immigrant Ancestor – Shipping manifests can contain valuable information about your ancestor and where they came from. Learn where shipping manifest records can be found and what information is stored on those pages.

Cost is $20. To register for the program, go to: https://ocgsny.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Revised-Registration-Fred-Voss-May-16-2026-ALL-DAY.pdf
