The New York Genealogical & Biographical Society is celebrating Black History Month with a free online program on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 11 a.m.
The NYG&B and the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society New York Chapter will present “The Birth Certificate Said What? Race Shifts in Records, Passing, and Belonging.” The speaker Danielle Romero will examine how racial designations shift across historical documents and what those changes reveal about family history, community ties, and identity.
The program is free but registration is required. To register, go to: https://www.newyorkfamilyhistory.org/events/birth-certificate-said-what-race-shifts-records-passing-and-belonging
The society also has a newly updated “Essential Resources for African American Research on the NYG&B Website” for information on researching African American families from New York State.
