Volunteers sought for diocesan cemeteries digitization project

The Albany Diocesan Cemeteries is participating in the Digitize NY program that is provided by the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society.

Through Digitize New York, organizations can either submit their records for preservation at one of the NYG&B digitization centers or request a digitization kit to upload records at their own sites at no cost.

The Diocesan Cemeteries is looking for volunteers to help scan cemetery lot owner and interment cards. Scanning is taking place at two Capital District locations: St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands and Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna. Volunteers will be trained in the procedure.  At the scanner station volunteers will be given cards to be scanned. It is as simple as placing the cards on the scanning pad and pressing a button.

Volunteers are asked for a time commitment of two or three hours a week at the location of your choice. If you are interested, contact Matthew Desrochers at mathew@adcemeteries.org.
