The Buffalo Irish Genealogical Society will have its genealogical library open by appointment only in July, August and September. For more information, contact Donna Shine at librarian@bigswny.org

The Chautauqua County Genealogical Society will meet on Wednesday, July 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post 1280 on Maple Avenue in Cassadaga. For more information, go to: https://www.facebook.com/chautgen/

The Capital District Genealogy Society will present “Quest for a Revolutionary War Pension” on Saturday, July 26 at 1 p.m. at the Clifton Park-Half Moon Public Library. This is the story of Susannah Moore, widow of Revolutionary War veteran John Roe. Married at 16 to Roe while he was on furlough in 1779, she later sought a pension under the 1836 Pension Act after his death. Denied at first, she embarked on a determined fight to claim her rightful benefits, highlighting the complexities of the early pension system. For more information, go to: https://www.cdgsny.org/

The Jefferson County NY Genealogical Society will meet at the Brookside Cemetery Offices, 19000 County Route 165, Watertown, on August 11 at 6 p.m. A staff member will explain the history of the cemetery and how to navigate the grounds better to locate your ancestor’s headstone. Additionally, we will identify a nominating committee to seek nominees for 2025-2026 leadership roles. Elections will be held in September.

The Polish Genealogical Society of New York State will present “Breaking Through our Members Brick Walls” on Thursday, August 14 at 7 p.m.  Using a member’s brick wall as the starting point, we will provide some background on the research problem, and then our in-person and Zoom attendees will have the opportunity to suggest resources and strategies for next steps in the research. Attendees can research using their own personal arsenal of websites, and we will enable people to share their screens to display their findings, one by one.
