Two New York cemeteries groups, in opposite parts of the state, will be hosting work projects this week.
Friends of Lakeview Cemeteries, located in Patchogue (Suffolk County) will host its first weekly headstone cleaning event tomorrow, June 18 at 10 a.m. This will be an ongoing community event every Wednesday with Thursday as a rain date.
No experience is necessary. The group will provide all supplies and offer hands-on training. Just bring water, sunscreen, and a readiness to connect with local history.

Friends of Concordia Cemetery in Buffalo will be having its first Digging Up Stones Days of the season on Saturday, June 21 at 9 a.m.
Volunteers will be marking GRP hits and others are needed to help unearth the stones. With new equipment, some of the heavier stones will be able to be lifted out of the ground.
No experience is needed. The group will teach the proper way to find, unearth and clean these fragile pieces of family history. They provide the equipment, water, snacks but please bring work gloves if you have them.
