Yonkers Public Library (Westchester County) will offer “Create Your Family Tree” on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 10 a.m. Get together to talk about your genealogical research. Learn how to access thousands of genealogical records using the Library’s online resources and databases such as HeritageQuest, Family Search and Ancestry! Onondaga County Public Library will present “City Directories and Local Clues” on Friday, Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. This is a Zoom presentation. This program will highlight city directories available for Syracuse and Central New York, including print volumes and microfilm held in the Local History & Genealogy Department, as well as digitized directories accessible online through resources such as FamilySearch. Attendees will learn how to interpret directory entries, follow individuals year by year, and use directories alongside other records to build a fuller picture of their ancestors’ lives. Yonkers Public Library (Westchester County) will offer “African American Genealogy” on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m. Learn about using library resources to trace family histories, and uncover stories of Black civic leaders in early Westchester. Explore the legacy of John Edward “Grit” Bruce and the pioneering orgainzations he helped build, including the Negro Society for Historical Research, the Colored Cooperative League, and the Negro Republican League.
