Since it’s that time of year, here are some ideas for New Year’s resolutions for your genealogy research.
Genealogist’s New Year’s Resolutions for 2026 are:
- Take a look at all link categories on this website. You might be surprised at what we have found.
- Check out this website’s blog postings for upcoming events and news.
- Join a local New York genealogy group.
- Interview your oldest relative.
- Attend RootsTech 2026 virtually for free.
- Watch episodes of ‘Finding Your Roots’ which will begin again on Jan. 6 on PBS stations.
- Scan photos and documents and store them in the cloud and/or on storage media devices such as an external hard drive, flash drive, etc.
- Make sure you are backing up to your hard drive each month or set up a an automatic backup to a cloud service.
- Listen to a genealogy podcast.
- Attend a free virtual genealogy webinar on Artificial Intelligence.
- Take advantage of Legacy Family Tree webinars that are free for the first seven days.
- Share your family history research with family members.
- Take a DNA test.
- Take advantage of your home library’s free databases such as Ancestry Library Edition, MyHeritage Library Edition, Historical New York Times, etc. Many databases can be accessed at home by using your library barcode.
