Volunteers sought for cleanup of veterans graves in Huntington

In honor of the 250th anniversary of the U.S., State Assemblyman Keith Brown and other officials are organizing a cleanup of Huntington’s 20 cemeteries that hold the graves of American Revolutionary War soldiers.

Brown said he got interested in the idea of cleaning up cemeteries because he is a big history buff. He reached out to Huntington Town Historian Robert Hughes who led work to recognize Revolutionary War veterans in the Old Burying Ground in Huntington and Councilman Sal Ferro who helped repair a cemetery in Commack with the help of Paws of War.

Every second Saturday of the month volunteers are needed to restore and maintain Revolutionary War patriot cemeteries in Huntington. The work will be done at different historic Revolutionary War patriot cemeteries with the locations being announced monthly.

For more details or to volunteer, email learyl@nyassembly.gov or call 631-261-4151 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
