There are several tours of Buffalo cemeteries scheduled for July.
United German and French Cemetery – July 18 and 24. This tour explores the final resting places of some of the earliest residents of Buffalo. Learn about manufacturers, inventors, brewers, craftsmen, heroes, sportsmen, a brothel owner, and a sandwich maker
Mount Calvary Cemetery – July 19 and 25 at 10 a.m. This tour explores historic and influential residents of WNY who shaped the region. You will be introduced to a theater titan, the Prohibition-era mayor who kicked the KKK to the curb, and the “inventor” of Buffalo’s iconic chicken wing.
Holy Cross Cemetery – July 19 at 1 p.m and July 27 at 11 a.m. Inextricably bound to the history of Buffalo is the story of the Irish immigrants and their descendants who helped transform the city. Some were scoundrels, some were heroes, but all contributed to the growth of Buffalo.
Concordia Cemetery – July 26 at 10 .m. Concordia Cemetery was founded in 1859 and is one of the oldest cemeteries in Western New York. The cemetery is the final resting place for thousands of Buffalonians over two centuries. After being abandoned in 2001, the cemetery is now maintained by a dedicated group of volunteers.

Also, Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo will have several tours including an African American Ancestral Trolley Tour on July 19 at 11 a.m. In partnership with the Afro-American Historical Association of the Niagara Frontier, learn about the lives of notable African Americans such as political leaders, clergy, civil rights champions, business owners, soldiers, musicians, artists and more.
