New York State Library to offer genealogy classes

The New York State Library in Albany will be offering two in person genealogy programs in February.

Learn about using FamilySearch.org on Wednesday, February 5 from 2-3 p.m.

The New York State Library partnered with the New York State Archives to become a FamilySearch Affiliate Library. FamilySearch Affiliate Libraries have onsite access to digital microfilm data that is not available to researchers using FamilySearch resources from their home computer. Learn how to access genealogical records and online books included in this database. They will also demonstrate how to print and save records.

In honor of Black History Month, learn about Black Newspaper databases on Wednesday, Feb. 19 from 1-2 p.m.

Librarians from the New York State Library will provide an overview and discuss search techniques for the following newspaper databases: African American Newspapers: The 19th Century; NY Amsterdam News; and Black Abolitionist Papers.
