Revolutionary War soldiers to be remembered

The Middletown Hillside Cemetery Board, located in Orange County, will be holding a memorial service for five recently discovered Revolutionary War soldier, today, Sunday, Nov. 19 at 1 pm at the Hillside Cemetery in Middletown.

The soldiers were originally buried in the First Congregational Church of Middletown which was established in 1785. Later the graveyard was moved to Hillside Cemetery in 1871. Recently relatives of one of the founders of Middletown were able to identify the individuals moved to Hillside Cemetery, including the five soldiers. Funds were raised to create a memorial to the men and their wives and to display their gravestones.

A history of these men who fought for independence will be presented.

Attending the ceremony, among others, will be members of the Middletown Hillside Cemetery Board, the Middletown American Legion, the Middletown Sons of the American Legion and city officials.
