History society seeking help to find new accomadations

BRAG, the Bolivar, Richburg, Allentown and Genesee Historical Society, is urgently seeking help from the communities it serves to find a new home.

The historical society needs to vacate its room at the Bolivar Free Library by March 1, 2024. It has occupied the room for the last 25 years with files; genealogical materials; marriage, death and birth records; workspace; and some historical items. The bulk of the historical society’s collection is located at its schoolhouse museum in Ceres. But the building in Ceres is not appropriate for the work of cataloging, researching and filing that goes on at the library because the building is neither heated nor completely waterproof.

Over the last three years, BRAG has been actively searching for a new home in and around Bolivar. Building owners either require them to purchase the building or pay rent. BRAG is a non-profit organization with no funding source other than membership dues and donations.

With March 1 only four months away, the BRAG board is desperate. They are looking at possibly having to place their records in storage until a solution can be found. So, they are appealing to the community for help.

If anyone can help, they should contact a BRAG board member or visit them at the library on Monday mornings or contact Charlotte Mead at rmead62@yahoo.com.
