Several tours to be offered at Green-Wood Cemetery

The Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn will be offering several cemetery tours during the month of October.

Secrets in Stone Walking Tour –  October 23:  11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 – 3 p.m. and October 30:  noon  – 1 30 p.m. and 2:30 – 4 p.m.

There is a secret language at Green-Wood that is etched in its centuries-old monuments. Inverted torches, bales of wheat, and hourglasses with wings are a few of the curious depictions that you will encounter. This walking tour will showcase the meaning of these eternal, though sometimes cryptic, symbols.

Green-Wood’s Greatest Hits –  October 24: 1- 2:30 p.m. and October 31:  1– 2:30pm

Explore Green-Wood’s historic landscape and most famous permanent residents. On this walking tour, walk where George Washington and his troops fought in the Battle of Brooklyn; learn the tragedy that struck the Brooklyn Theatre; pay your respects to Leonard Bernstein and discover much more.

Spirited Stroll –  October 31:  11 a.m. – 1  p.m.

Historian Jeff Richman will lead this tour filled with tales of murder, mayhem, spirits, and the utterly bizarre. Visit the graves of The Wizard of Oz (actor Frank Morgan), George Washington’s favorite dentist, the somewhat shady originator of Spiritualism, and many more.
