Archives of Irish mission aid in researching female ancestors

Do you have Irish female ancestors who came to New York City between the 1880s and 1950s? If so, you may want to look at a website called The Irish Mission at Watson House.

Watson House was also known as the Home of the Mission of Our Lady of the Rosary for the Protection of Irish Immigrant Girls.  It was established to assist women who had no relatives or friends to meet them when they got off the ship in New York. In its first 25 years, the organization helped 100,000 women.

This collection includes searchable records of the Irish Mission at Watson House from 1883-1954. Information in the records include ship name and arrival date, name, age, county in Ireland and destination address.
